21 Months Old!

Ellen is getting closer and closer to the 2-year mark! She continues to amaze us each day with her sweetness, silliness and intelligence. So ... what's Ellen up to these days?
  • Singing & dancing. Her favorite songs include a few Sesame Street numbers ("I love My Hair." "In My Room" and "Sing a Song") as well as Cee-lo Green's "F*ck You" (the clean version).
  • Watching "Sesame Street" and "Wheel of Fortune" (aka "the clapping show").
  • Driving her new cozy coupe ("Ellen's car") ... EVB is a very cautious driver; she always checks her mirror and beeps her horn.
  • Practicing using her potty chair
  • Counting. Ellen can count to 13; however, 4 and 9 sometimes get left out.
  • Giving eskimo and butterfly kisses
  • Saying "bless you" after anyone (herself included) sneezes, coughs or burps
  • Jabbering non-stop. Ellen is repeating even more of what we say and can often be found carrying on little conversations with herself or her toys.
  • Whispering. This is a new skill that is absolutely precious. In the midst of whispering, Ellen frequently gets so excited about what she's saying that she forgets about lowering her speaking volume, but then quickly corrects herself by repeating what she just said in a whisper. :)

The Language of Ellen

Ellen has a fantastic vocabulary for her age. She says more words than I could possibly count and speaks in multi-word sentences. It's actually pretty easy (and extremely amusing) to carry on a conversation with this little lady. For the most part, Ellen speaks very clearly and pronounces words correctly; however, there a few words that she puts her own cute twist on:
  • uppydemo = armadillo
  • toot-toot = tutu
  • Cargick = Target
  • ommacahno = avocado
  • How-wo & Babba = Howard & Barbara (our next-door neighbors)
  • owie sticker = bandaid
  • Cookie Monkers = Cookie Monster
  • soop = spoon
  • moo cow = cow
  • baa baa sheep = sheep
  • c*ck = duck
  • toot = cute
  • tank ooh = thank you
  • peez = please
  • pretty = barrette/hair clip
  • picket = blanket
  • Elsies = elephant
  • Ell-nee = Ellen

4th of July Weekend

Ellen had a fun-filled 4th of July weekend. We kicked things off with family date night on Friday, celebrated Adam's birthday on Saturday and spent the day lakeside on the 4th. Best of all, the weather was beautiful!

Coloring with Daddy at the restaurant.

Happy Birthday, Daddy-Dad!
